50’s vintage wedding Melbourne

Bec’s & Shaun, this wedding had awesome surprises around every corner! A pure 50’s vintage wedding! I met Bec’s at her cute little house with her sweet shy dog and family, it was a clear autumn day in Melbourne town. Instantly I was surrounded by kitsch 1950’s detail, I just loved being in her home. Bec’s + Shaun chose to get hitched at the Geelong Carousel on the waterfront, it was such a picturesque location and such a lovely ceremony. From there we all bundled into vintage cars and drove over to the Geelong Powerhouse which is a gutted warehouse space for graffiti artists to showcase their work. We had full command of the warehouse for 2 hours, I was in absolute heaven. These two sure knew how to throw a party. Thanks a million for having me along for the ride!

And the fine folks over at Vintage Bride Magazine seemed to think this wedding was pretty groovy too, they printed it in their 2015 spring issue!

‘My dress was from Fairytales Bridal in Moonee Ponds. It is a Justin Alexander gown. I knew from the beginning I wanted to wear a pillbox hat, so my dress was chosen on its suitability to the hat. I was initially hesitant about purchasing a dress for an event  so far in advance, however after some persuasion from one of my bridesmaids I headed to Sydney Rd Melbourne with my mum about 10 months out from the  wedding. At that point I had the idea of what I wanted however with so many stores it
was a little overwhelming and confusing and I left with no dress. A couple of weeks later a colleague recommended Fairytales Bridal which was in close proximity to my
workplace. So I made an appointment at the end of the day, left work a little early and swung by on my way home. The staff at the store where wonderful, and really
helpful and I chose a dress that was the same style as I originally wanted. I bought it  on the spot and the sales assistants helped me skype my mum, and took photos for
my bridesmaids (one lives in Canberra and one in Auckland)’

‘Shaun likes to call our wedding theme ‘old school’.  I like to think of it as a combination of retro, kitsch, eclectic, relaxed, vintage and fun, I also agree with
Shaun’s short explanation ‘old school’. Our wedding really reflected who we are. Our house decor is a combination of things that we have  acquired from opp shops, garage sales, eBay, gumtree and other like places. We love scouring places and finding a bargain and also love having unique
vintage one off pieces that you won’t see anywhere else. This means that we don’t specifically stay in one era, rather we have multiple items that are just really cool. This is the same theme that was applied to the wedding, if we liked it then it was included somehow.’
