Enchanting forest wedding New Zealand & Melbourne
Sometime’s you get thrown amazing experiences in life, be it large or subtle – these experiences will throw themselves upon you, should you wish it. Photographing John & Kate’s enchanting forest wedding in New Zealand was absolutely one of those larger experiences, I am so grateful to have this thrown at me.
I did not know John & Kate, but I know John’s sister Liz. We met in Dublin going on 15 odd years ago and have stayed pretty cute friends in all those years since. Liz loves her family dearly, and when her brother was finally marrying his lady of the forest Kate – Liz knew it was the best time for her entire family to be treated to beautiful keepsake photos of such a beautiful occasion. You see – Liz & John’s folks Mary & Phil live on the most amazing mini lifestyle farm just out of Wellington NZ, they love their land and all that dwell there. John & Kate are dedicated recyclers (people of my own heart) they live a beautiful life. All of the food was prepared in the kitchen by family & friends, the cakes were home made, they even made a batch of amazing Elder-flower Cider. All over Mary & Phil’s home, were many framed photos, photos were everywhere on their beautiful country walls.
So when these two got hitched, Liz knew their family needed professional kick ass photos, so she flew me to New Zealand and hired me to capture this amazing forest wedding. It was and will be, forever a highlight of my life. What a wonderful thing to do for your brother & sister in law, the gift of photos.
John & Kate were delightfully quirky and terribly camera shy, it was wonderful. Everything was laid out for me – I was in awe and photographing was a breeze. I slept 2 nights in a tent that Liz set up, decked out with a legit single mattress, a rug, a table & a lamp! We went swimming in the ocean the night before, it was a beautiful time.
John & Kate, it was such a treat to meet you both and to be invited into such a wonderful celebration. Liz, you’re one special bear.
